Richmond – Virginia Union University Head Football Coach Michael Bailey announced Wednesday, February 3rd the signing of 14 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to continue their academic and football careers at VUU.
The list of signees includes two defensive lineman, one running back, six offensive linemen, four linebackers and one defensive back. More signings are expected to be released later this week.
“This is a great group of young men that our assistant coaches identified and brought to campus,” Bailey said on Wednesday. “They are all expected to raise the level of competition in our program and help us to a championship.”
Virginia Union University is an NCAA Division II school located in Richmond, Va., and competes in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. VUU finished with an overall record of 6-4 in 2009, in a three way tie for the CIAA Eastern Division Championship.
The Panthers are scheduled to begin spring practice on March 15th. VUU will open the 2010 season on Saturday, Aug. 28th, on the road versus Winston Salem State University in a conference game at Bowman Gray Stadium.
