HAMPTON, VA- Bowie State University won the three-way tiebreaker which took place at the CIAA Office on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.
 
This officially ends the 2009 Virginia Union University season at 6-4 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
 
The accounting firm of Cavanaugh and Nelson administered the coin toss tiebreaker, where the three contending Athletic Directors simultaneously flipped coins; Bowie State Interim AD, Arlene Creek, flipped a tail versus two heads tossed by Virginia Union and Elizabeth City State.
 
The Bulldogs (6-4, CIAA 5-2) are now crowned the Eastern Division Champions and move on to face Fayetteville State (7-3, CIAA 6-1) next Saturday at Durham County Stadium in Durham, NC.

The football team dropped their final game of the season after an upsetting loss 13-21 to Elizabeth City State University this afternoon. The Panthers finish in a 1st place three way tie with Elizabeth City State University and Bowie State University in the CIAA Eastern Division with a 5-2 record.
The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association will host a three-way tiebreaker tomorrow at the CIAA Office; 1:00pm.
The accounting firm of Cavanaugh & Nelson, PC will be administering the coin toss tiebreaker.

10.29.09 | Men's Basketball
 The Panthers basketball team will host an exhibition game against Fort Meade Army Base of Maryland on Saturday, October 31st inside Barco-Stevens Hall at 7:00 pm. VUU lost the CIAA Championship game to JCSU and was preseason picked to finished number one in the Eastern Division by the conference.
 
Virginia Union University finished the 2008-09 season 21-7 overall, Eastern Division Champs at 16-4. The Panthers will have 5 returning student-athletes from last season. Head coach Willard Coker and his coaching staff signed nine new panthers to provide more depth to the squad this year.
 
Virginia Union University will participate in a second exhibition versus Virginia Commonwealth University on Thursday, November 5th at the Siegel Center before opening up the regular season away against Shaw University on Monday, November 16th at 7:30 pm.
 
Admission to the exhibition versus Fort Meade of Maryland is free to the public, doors open at 6:30 pm.

CIAA honored Enrique Cox and Stephen Velasquez as Players of the Week 9.
Cox senior from Virginia Beach, VA was named Linebacker of the Week, after retuning a 54 yard fumble in the win against Bowie State University.
Velasquez was named Specialty Player of the Week, after converting an extra point attempt to push the Panthers past Bowie State, 17-16 on Saturday.
 The Panthers close out the regular season against Elizabeth City State on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

Senior Enrique Cox returned a fumble 54 yards for a touchdown and Stephen Velasquez converted the extra point, lifting the Panthers to a stunning 17-16 Homecoming victory over the Bulldogs of Bowie State.  The win keeps Virginia Union in the chase for the CIAA Eastern Division title, improving its record to 6-3 (5-1 in the CIAA).
 
Virginia Union’s English completed 12-of-24 passes for a game-high 157 yards with Joseph Jean-Pierre hauling in six of the passes for a game-high 78 yards.  Stephen Johnson paced the VUU Panthers defense with a game-high 11 tackles.
 
The Virginia Union Panthers will wrap up the CIAA regular season at home for Parents and Friends weekend against Elizabeth City State.

Virginia Union University rushed for a school record 490 yards as the Panthers smashed the Trojans 31-3 in front of a national televised audience on October 15.
 
The meeting was also the 100th game between the two schools in a series which dates back to 1900.  The Trojans lead the series 49-42-9.
 
Trevon Winston’s led in rushing with 180 yards while teammate Christopher Smith had 145 yards on the ground.

In all, Virginia Union tallied 511 total yards in offense to VSU's 118.

VUU raised it's record to 5-3.
 
The Panthers will welcome all Alumni and friends to Homecoming 09’ on October 24th when they play the Bulldogs of Bowie State.

Virginia Union University’s football Panthers are gearing up for a national television audience when CBS College Sports (CSTV) comes to Rogers Stadium for the game between VSU and Virginia Union University on Thursday, October 15. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
 
 
The game will be broadcast live over the internet. Fans can tune in by going to the VSU athletic web page at http://www.vsu.edu/pages/102.asp and click on WATCH LIVE.
