Women's Basketball Signs Five Stand-Outs

A pair of junior college transfers and three freshman all-stars mark the first recruiting class for new Virginia Union University women's basketball coach Barvenia Wooten-Collier.
Collier, who coached at Prince George's Community College before returning to her alma mater, is bringing transfer Lillian Ike with her from Prince George's. Ike, a 6-1 power forward/center from Upper Marlboro, Md., averaged 7.2 points per game and led PGCC in rebounding with seven boards per game as she helped lead Prince George's to the Tournament.
Valentina Wheeler is a transfer from Hagerstown Community College. Wheeler, a 5-9 forward from Hagerstown, Md., led Hagerstown to an 18-12 record. In her senior year at North Hagerstown High School she had 74 steals en route to being named the Defensive Player of the Year.
Leslie Slayton is a 5-5 freshman guard from Henry A. Wise High School in Upper Marlboro, Md. As a senior at Wise High School Slayton averaged 13.3 points and 4.2 assists per game.
Brianna Cunningham is a 5-10 freshman forward from Malverne Senior High School in Rockvillecentre, NY. Cunningham played on the New York Elite team and is ranked as one of the top high school guards in the state of New York by ESPN.
Lekeisha Prescott is a 5-9 forward from Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn, N.Y. As a senior for Lane in 2009-10 Prescott averaged 18.1 points and 18.2 rebounds per game. In the 2010 New York State Playoffs, Prescott averaged 17 points and 14 rebounds per game.
